EVENT PHOTOS

Community Safety Day, hosted by Fair Play Fire Department, was held on May 24, 2008, at the Fair Oak Youth Center.  It was lots of fun for both kids and adults.   A wide variety of safety agencies were represented including Oconee County Emergency Services, SC Forestry Commission, Oconee County Sheriff's Department, and SC Highway Patrol.    Justin Wood, did a great job coordinating this event and we hope that it will grow each year.  (Click on thumbnails to see larger pictures.)

The Bluegrass and Gospel Festival on Saturday, March 1, 2008, at Earle's Grove Baptist Church Family Life Center was a huge success.   Over 550 people attended and enjoyed hot dogs and fixin's accompanied by the fine music of the following Gospel and Bluegrass groups:    Promised Land, Tugalo Holler,  Donald Brothers, The Marksman, and Curtis Blackwell with Charles Wood.   (Click on the right or left arrows to move through the slide show.  Clicking on a picture will put that picture into the large frame.)   Thanks to the FD members and their family members who devoted time to cooking and serving and to Henry Richardson for organizing this event.

GRANTS

2008:

AFG GRANT:   Fair Play Fire Department received a $118,750.00 grant that will be used to purchase a new quick attack fire truck.   The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program award was announced by US Senator Lindsey Graham on July 31.   The truck will replace the current brush truck which is old and unreliable.   According to program requirements, delivery of this vehicle must take place within the next 12 months.   We anticipate the truck will be similar in style and configuration to the pictures below.  Clicking on a picture will put that picture into the large frame.

V-SAFE GRANT: Fair Play Fire Department was one of 104 departments in the state to receive a V-SAFE (Volunteer Strategic Assistance and Fire Equipment) Grant through the SC Fire Marshal's Office and the SC Firefighter's Association.    The award of $27,900 was used for much needed extrication equipment.   Department members received training on the equipment on April 12, 2008, and dismantled several cars donated by Jerry's Auto Sales, Towing and Repair of Townville.    Thanks to Grant Writer and firefighter Steven Zahn for getting this grant through.  Thanks also to firefighter Russell Wormald for arranging for the cars and allowing us to use the parking lot of Russell's General Store as our training site.    (Click on thumbnails to see larger pictures.)

Fair Play Fire Department was awarded grants from FEMA in 2003 and again in 2006.  The grant in 2003 provided funding to purchase turnout gear, a breathing air cascade system, 8 Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus, breathing air compressor and a thermal imaging camera.  The  2006 grant provided funding for turnout gear and for wildland firefighting gear, a washer-extractor, and a remote control nozzle for the brush truck.  Coupled with the matching portion from Oconee County, this amounted to over $150,000.00  of equipment for the Fair Play community.
